Standards for quality assurance in higher education

What are higher education quality standards?

The main objective of the standards and guidelines for quality assurance in higher education is to contribute to a common understanding of quality assurance in learning and teaching by all stakeholders.
Standards and guidelines have played and will continue to play an important role in the development of national and institutional quality assurance systems. Engagement, in particular, in external quality assurance processes will enable European higher education systems to demonstrate their quality and increase transparency, institutions will thus contribute to strengthening mutual trust and improving the mutual recognition of qualifications, study programmes and other services provided.

The basic standards for ensuring the quality of higher education include:
– standards for the internal system
– standards for the study program
– standards for habilitation procedures and procedures for appointing professors

Who are the standards intended for?

For all higher education institutions. The standards were approved by the Executive Board of the Slovak Accreditation Agency for Higher Education on July 2, 2020 and enter into force on September 1, 2020. The higher education institution is obliged to align its internal system with these standards within 24 months of their entry into force.
